5 Reasons Private Swim Lessons Are More Effective Than Group Swim Lessons
Summer fun is on the horizon, and families are making vacation plans or talking about plans to visit the local waterpark or lake or even talk about upcoming pool parties!
With summer plans on the minds of families, and as we move into the winter months, parents start thinking about getting their little swimmers ready for summer fun by enrolling them in swim lessons now.
January, February, and March are the best times to begin enrolling your swimmers in swim lessons to secure a spot at your local swim school. Spots fill up quickly, and you don't want to be left out in the cold!!
Why you're looking at local swim schools and trying to find the best one that fits your needs, and as you begin to scour the internet and specifically Google looking for that one swim lesson provider that checks all the boxes, one thing that you'll find a lot of is advertisements and listings for "group swim lessons" and very few listings for "private swim lessons." There is a reason why you see more group swim lessons, not private ones, and we'll expound on this more.
Swim lessons come in two formats - group swim lessons and private (one-on-one) swim lessons. Most ads or listings for swim schools that focus more on group lessons are more significant than ads for private swim lessons because the group lesson model allows swim schools to make more money and is more sustainable when you own or lease your own pool facility. In other words, franchise "strip mall" swim schools must focus on group swim lessons and keeping swimmers long-term in group swim lessons to sustain their business model - Worden Aquatics, LLC does not have to do this!
We're a 100% service-based business, and our model is unique in that we ONLY offer private one-on-one swim lessons. We do not own our facility, so we don't have high overhead, thus allowing us more flexibility in where we teach. We lease "lane space" at several commercial and neighborhood pools throughout the Nashville metro area and provide private swim lessons at backyard pools. Think of us as the "personal trainers" of the aquatics world.
Lauren Worden, the co-owner and founder of Worden Aquatics, LLC, has taught swim lessons since 1994 and was certified by the American Red Cross to teach group lessons. Teaching group swim lessons is what she did for three years, and after seeing that the same kids were in her group swim lessons for months, Lauren knew what she was doing wasn't working. Lauren noticed kids sitting on the pool deck's side, twiddling their thumbs and kicking the water. Some swimmers decided that they would just jump in, even though they couldn't get to the side of the wall by themselves. Lauren would have to rush back to the wall to grab the swimmer from the water. All the while, the swimmer she was working with was by her side. Even though the group Lauren was working with was small (three swimmers max), these swimmers were not learning even though Lauren had the same swimmers for months. So, after three years of teaching only group swim lessons, Lauren discovered that group swim lessons didn't work, and she decided to teach only private swim lessons.
#1 - Individualized Attention:
Private one-on-one swim lessons offer personalized attention and focus on particular swimming goals. This ensures each swimmer gets full attention from the instructor during their lesson. The instructor will meet the swimmer's needs, guaranteeing maximum progress and improvement. With undivided attention from the instructor, you can progress more quickly than in group lessons. Private lessons make it easier to master new techniques and refine existing ones rapidly, accelerating progress.
#2 - Cost Effective:
Even though private swim lessons may cost more upfront than group lessons, you save money in the long run. You can enroll your swimmer in group lessons for months and see little to no progress. With private swim lessons, your instructor will cater to the needs of the swimmer, thus allowing for a more catered approach and quicker results.
We hear all the time from our clients that their swimmers learned more in a few lessons with us than they did in a month or even months of group swim lessons.
#3 - Quicker results:
We understand that every swimmer brings different skills and challenges to the water, so our personalized lessons help each student conquer their fears, achieve their goals, and make real progress in the water. Our highly-trained private swim lesson instructors (coaches) understand that young swimmers learn differently and that an individualized approach is critical to each swimmer's learning style.
#4 - Flexible scheduling:
Private swim lessons provide more flexibility in terms of scheduling. While other swim schools offer lessons on a rigid, set calendar, Worden Aquatics offers flexible scheduling. Whether you have multiple swimmers you want to schedule back-to-back or an adult who needs lessons on their lunch break, our instructors can accommodate your calendar! Our wide range of availability and locations means your swimmer can learn to swim, even when your schedule is jam-packed.
#5 - We Can Come to You:
One of the great things about us is that we can come to you. Do you have a backyard pool or a neighborhood pool? Do you have a neighbor or friend that has a backyard pool? We have instructors who focus solely on destination private swim lessons.
Our Final Thoughts
This spring, when you are looking for swim lessons for your swimmer, remember what you have just read and ask yourself, "Are private swim lessons the way to go?" Our answer is YES!
